Love is Sooo Not in the Air
DISCLAIMER: Joss (God) owns all things Buffy. Marvel Comics owns Jubilee and
all things affiliated with the um, marvel universe. Um... Those guys who own
Quinn Mallory and Sliders own him. And I own Allison Warren, Caitlyn Morgan,
Silia Vanya and that Spellbinder/Lydia chickie.
Oh and Alex and Ashley too. Anyone or anything else mentioned belongs to their
rightful owners. I’m just doing this for fun.
NOTES: Different format. This one’s all from Sil’s point of view. It’s not that
funny, it just… is.
Of course… If I had a date I’d change my tune.
Everyone in the house seems to have plans. Bobby is going out with Ashley, Cat has Quinn wrapped around her finger, and strangely enough, Jubilee and Terry are going out tonight.
"That leaves us it seems." I said to Alli who was drawing something on the kitchen table.
Alli didn’t look up, but shook her head, "Nu uh, Silia. I got plans!"
"What? Since when?"
"Since I started to stalk the guy who works at Blockbuster." She
looked up at me and held up her drawing, which turned out to be a very
detailed blueprint. "I’ve decided to totally kidnap him! He’s SOOOOOOO
cute!" Alli giggled and returned to her work.
I blinked at her and shook my head. "God help the poor boy. Try not to hurt him."
"Kay!"
"And don’t get caught."
"No prob!"
I backed out of the kitchen and found myself running into Ares who was… smiling. "What are you so happy about?"
Ares grinned. "I’m getting laid."
I managed to keep from gagging, but not by much. "The girl must be blind."
"Nah. She just got out of prison!" Ares whistled happily and walked away.
He MUST be expecting some action if he didn’t even snap at me. Ugh. EW. Imaging.
GROSS. I sighed again and teleported myself to my attic.
As soon as I arrived, I threw myself on to the bed with a moan of despair.
"VALENTINES DAY SUCKS!"
"Yeah it does doesn’t it."
I merely buried my face in my pillow and answered with my telepathy. *Yes it does Little Washu.*
Washu was sitting on a floating pillow and tapping away at her keys on that
translucent computer of hers. "I hope you don’t mind me using
your attic. It’s just that if I hear one more cooing sound from Cat and Quinn,
I’ll have to turn them into water imps."
*By all means I say go for it.*
"You’re bitter about not having a date? Why not ask Stealth? He was sitting alone in his room last I saw—"
*Don’t even go there.* I warned her.
I could feel Washu’s grin. "Oh yes. Caitlyn told me about your ‘incident’."
"Oh just say it!" I yelled. "I threw myself at him like some desperate little teenage girl who hasn’t had a date in a decade!"
Washu smirked. "Well... I’ve seen the video and—"
My jaw dropped and sat straight up. "THERE’S A VIDEO?!!"
"Apparently it was recorded during the training session and—"
I let out a loud wail and teleported myself away again.
The next thing I knew, I was in the good old training hall. I nodded to myself
and transformed into my fighting gear, which consisted of a
simple black body suit today. "Computer. Training session Silia. Level
15."
Suffice to say... I don’t have time to talk anymore.
_________
I had just stepped out of the locker room, all squeaky clean when I ran into Buffy. I smiled at her. "Hey Buff."
"Hey." She replied. "Have you seen Xander?"
"He’s upstairs in the ballroom." I answered. Telepathy comes in handy. I’m a regular freaking hound dog.
Buffy smiled. "Thanks. I have to give him his valentines present." She ran off, leaving me standing alone in the hall.
"I hate my life."
"Complaining about being dateless?" Stealth asked as he walked over to me.
"Yes." I frowned. "What are you up to?"
"Heading to the library for another book."
"Oh." An odd Idea hit me. "Hey, want to hang out with me and
Washu? I’ve decided since the three of us are dateless we can have a ‘let’s
go and mock everyone who has a date in town by showing off how awesome we are’
night."
Stealth merely gave me a ‘look’. For a guy he was pretty good at that.
"Oh fiiiine. I just don’t want to be miserable and alone."
"Fine. I choose where we go then."
"Cool. I’ll go tell Washu."
_________
So 2 hours later the three of us were sitting in a rather nice but quiet Italian restaurant and enjoying each other’s company.
For the fashion police, I was dressed in a lovely, pastel green slip dress, which I must say looked damn nice on me. I’d curled my hair (love that magic. Ha!) And pulled it back with a simple clip and only a few curls fell loose around my face.
Washu had chosen to dress in a simple childlike dress suit that was pink and blue, and her hair... well… it was her same old spiky do she always has.
As for Stealth, he cleans up nice. He was wearing a dressy black leather jacket,
dark blue dress shirt and a pair of khakis. His hair was perfect.
So perfect I had to resist the urge to muss it up.
Washu didn’t hold back her urge.
"Aren’t you a little cutie mech pilot. Yes you are!" She cooed evilly and reached over and mussed up his hair.
Stealth swatted her hand away. "Good god Washu."
"LITTLE Washu." She reminded sternly.
"Little Washu."
"Good boy." Washu leaned back in her seat and twirled her fork around,
"Now if you let me see your armor, I’m sure I could upgrade it.
I have this idea where I can put in a self-destruct button right on the—"
"WASHU!" I interrupted her. Trust me. No one needs to know what she was thinking. Hell, even I didn’t want to know.
Stealth glowered at Washu. "You are NOT touching my armor."
"Aww. Just a little bit?"
"No."
"Can I use you as a—"
"NO."
"Hey Silia, how about—"
"I told you the first time we met Washu, No chance in hell."
Washu of course pouted. "Damn."
Our waiter decided to bring the food by at that moment and everyone began to eat. Washu and Stealth got into a discussion about how the training hall works, and me? I drifted.
I went and thought about the past few Valentines Days I’ve had since becoming
a superhero. My first year, when I had first gotten my
powers… I remember um… spending it with Alex.
Shut up. I know, a low point in my love life, but he was so sweet when he asked
me out! He had this cute puppy dog face
and some how, I melted.
I blame the fact I was semi doped up on meds. Hey, we’d just had a battle with Lydia the day before…
The year after that, I was stuck on the astral plane. Damn Chaos. We’ll just
say that year sucked. The year after that, Alex tried again, and
I turned him down flat.
But then again, Alex is like constantly hitting on me. Trying so very hard
to flirt with me. Teasing me. Mocking me.
Trying very hard to act like it’s a joke and a game.
He doesn’t honestly think I haven’t seen inside his head, right? When I first got my powers, his ‘voice’ was shouting above the rest.
I know how he feels. I know how long he’s felt that way. I know what he thinks.
And I shrug him away. Damn me. Must I always close myself off? Why do I always
have to play the leader?
Why do I have to be the responsible one?
When the hell do I get what I want?
"Sil?"
I snapped to attention, to see Washu and Stealth watching me. "Hmm?"
"Are you okay?" Stealth asked. "You haven’t said a word."
"You also haven’t touched your food." Washu pointed out.
I flashed them a smile. Of course it was fake, but they couldn’t tell if I didn’t want them to. "I’m fine. I’m just drifty."
They seemed to accept that answer, and returned to their conversation. This time, I joined in to continue my little façade.
___________
It was 11 P.M. The three of us had returned home from what turned out to be
a simple but enjoyable night and retired to our bedrooms.
I had been laying in my bed for an hour now and I already knew sleep wasn’t
going to come. I rolled over to my side and set my head
on my hands and stared at the clock as it ticked on.
"Love is a crock." I muttered.
"So says the mighty Silia."
My eyes widened, and I had a spell ready to cast as I sat up. The spell flew
from my mind as I gazed dumbfounded at the smiling
visitor sitting at the foot of my bed.
Alex grinned at me. That damnable goofy grin. "Scared you?"
I smacked him upside the head with my pillow. "You bastard! NEVER sneak in my room! I could have killed you!"
He rubbed the back of his head, a lock of his red hair falling in front of his face. "Ow. Kill me? You never have before."
"You’ve lucked out."
"Sure. Face it Sil, you’re madly in love with me and you can’t live without me." The little bastard smirked at me.
I rolled my eyes. "Please." I telekinetically turned on my lamp, "So what are you doing here?"
Alex shrugged. "Came to visit Cat. I hear you guys blew up the old house."
"I wasn’t even here."
"A likely story. I bet you decided to blow it up while you were away."
"Shut up."
"Make me."
"Don’t tempt me."
"Can you use handcuffs?"
"Ugh!" I blanched and gave him a shove. "Pervert."
Alex let out a laugh. I have to admit, as annoying as Alex is, I miss talking to him at times. He smiled at me. "I also came to see you."
"Oh really?"
"Yeah. I missed you."
"Missed tormenting me you mean."
"That too." He looked away began toying with something he was holding.
I tried to sneak a peek, but he managed to maneuver from my view. "What’s that?" I asked.
"It’s nothing."
"Come one. Let me see." I tried to peek again. Once more I failed. Damn him. I pouted. "Please?"
"Close your eyes."
I looked at him questionably but obliged his order. A moment later I felt his breath on my cheek, he was so close.
"Open them."
I did, and right in front of my eyes was a simple red rose. I took it from him and stared at it in bewilderment. What Alex said next almost made me cry.
"I saw this rose at the flower shop down the street from where Blitz runs
her dojo. It was by itself, as if no one wanted it."
He paused nervously. "I asked the guy, who was working there, what was
wrong with it. He said, ‘No one wants it.
It’s got flaws. See?’ He pointed them out, but I just shook my head. I paid
for it, walked out and came here."
"It reminds me of you I think." Alex said softly. "People see
the flaws, not bothering to look around them to see what’s behind it.
Not bothering to see the beauty, the life, the strength of what makes it beautiful."
I swallowed hard and managed to hold back the tears I knew were coming. Damn him. Damn damn damn.
"I know I’m not making much sense. And even if I am, everything I’ve said sounds so corny… but I think I just wanted to make sure you knew some thought of you as someone other than ‘Miss All Powerful Leader’."
Alex watched me, as if trying to read my reaction. Naturally I was using my
telepathy to mask my true self.
He brushed a strand of hair from my face with a soft smile. "You do know,
I could always see past your mirage if I wanted to."
I burst into tears and Alex wrapped his arms around me and let me wail. In between my sobbing I managed to hear him speak up.
"Happy Valentines Day."
